About me

My name is Revathi Balasubramanian (she/her/hers). I am a vision/neuro/developmental biologist. Currently I am a research scientist in the John Lab in the Department of Ophthalmology at Columbia University Medical Center. I study the development of anterior segment of the eye, cellular interaction in various mouse models of glaucoma, and treatment modalities to halt and/or reverse glaucoma disease progression.

In addition to science, I strive to make academia an equitable environment especially for early-career researchers, women, and immigrants. I support open-access publishing and pre-printing to make science fairly accessible to researchers around the world.

Outside the lab, I enjoy hiking, exploring NYC to find hidden culinary gems, theater, opera, and making chai. I am also mom to a very opinionated three-year old.
